While on Holiday.

The amount of foreign visitors to Graceland is staggering. Elvis loved motorcycles. I had a Harley in the parking lot of Graceland. This is a picture of all the foreigners taking pictures of my bike while I allowed then to sit on it while others.....took pictures...it was strange how many petiole just kind of got in line to sit on my motorcycle. I am not part of the tour

Ellijay, Georgia

This town seems to be what Topeka downtown struggles to be. Very nice downtown with plenty of antique shops and plenty of memorial day flags. People everywhere in the narrow sidewalks. Meet Neelie,, she was our waitress at the Cantaberry cafe. She just broke up with her boyfriend last night at a party, may have smoked a cigarette but was too drunk to remember and told us to stay away from the chicken salad because the mayo smells funny today. Pretty sure she was looking for a date for the street dance tonight but we have to keep rolling.....

Fixing the ice machine....

For some reason I was asked to fix the ice machine at the cantaberry cafe...

Brushy Mountaun State Penitentiary

Brushy Mountain Prison sits at the foot if the Devils Triangle. Open before the turn of the century, its most famous guest was James Earl Ray. James Ray escaped from this prison but was captured two days later hiding in the mountain woods. After riding that mountain today I am not sure how they found him or the fact that the residents did not try to hide him. Racism is alive and well in the mountains of Tennessee.

Crashed and burned

Meet Joyce from Florida. She and ber group were riding the Devils Triangle yesterday when she lost control of her bike on a sharp curve, crashed skip up and almost over a guard rail that led to a 50 foot drop. To make matters worse, her husband ran over her severely injuring her arm. She then had to drive down the mountain one handed with broken handle bars and front forks. Here she is at Deals Gap holding her broken handle bars with her good hand. This is also her partially repaired bike. That's tough

Meet Frankie.

This is Frankie Bradley. He was sitting next to us at this bbq joint and mentioned he was going to the Dragon, where we were going. We all decided to rixe together for the day. Bikers are friendly bunch. Frankie is from Ashville, NC and was amazed we came all the way from kansas to ride. He had never been to Kansas but inderstood when I said you can watch your dog run away for three miles in most parts of Kansas.

The Dragon Tail

We made it to Deals Gap, Tennessee and slayed the dragon. 11 miles over 320 curves and elevation changes of 3000 feet. They say that one person a month dies on this road. It was tough but not as tough as the Devils Triangle yesterday.

Hardware store in Williams, Mo

I am not sure what kind of hardware they sell but I couldn't buy from them with a straight face.

The first day

The days ride was as smooth as it gets. After spending some time with my sister in Lees Summit, Mo, Jim and I said not touch another interstate the rest of the day.

Being on a motorcycle you sense everything around you. My observation today is that Sedalia really smells.

After putting 450 miles under our wheels, we stopped for the night in Chester Illinois. Chester sits on the Mississippi River and they claim is the home of Popeye the Sailer. I am not sure about that fact but at least they are not claiming Mark Twain like the rest if the towns in Missouri.

Boot Straps

I made some bout straps for the trip. You don't look cool if the wind is blowing your pant legs up while cruising down the highway.

The bikes have been checked, oil has been changed, maps have been marked up with all of the twisty roads we will travel. The plan is to leave early Thursday May 24, travel via I70 to Columbia, cut down through Mark Twain National Forest and hopefully get to the tip of NW Tennessee by nightfall.
